In the article we read in class this past Friday, “What’s A Liberal Arts Really Worth?” According to Steve Mason, a liberal arts education is unaffordable and non-important. He claims, “So if a job and the income it will provide are most important, then keep in mind that four years of education will cost not only the tuition and living expenses but four years of lost earnings as well.” This is a very biased claim because Mason is a Psychologist. Psychology is a liberal arts major. However, Mason is incorrect. A liberal arts degree is one of which that not at all times is outrageously priced. Also, along with the aspects that you gain from a liberal arts education, a person with a liberal arts education has more skills making them higher performing or able to reach levels of critical thinking and active learning that a person with a major in mathematics or engineering may not. Moreover, liberal arts jobs are equally as important as STEM practices. We need both to coexist. Mason is incorrect in his belief that Liberal arts education is worthless, too expensive, and leads to years of debt paying off that scathingly expensive almost “worthless” liberal arts education.
